Glad I Found You

"I'm glad I found you," were the first words out, and Micah hadn't intended to say that at all. But there they were, hanging awkwardly in the night air, and he ended up searching his mind for an explanation that would make sense to the two people on the stairs.

He'd been hoping to find Mae on her own so he could quietly speak with her on Twilight's behalf, but there was that man he'd met once before. It threw him off, that feeling of familiarity, as though he should know him somehow.

On top of that, it looked as though he'd managed to interrupt a...disagreement.

"Ahem...yes...can I help you?"  Sam's voice didn't betray his discomfort, it was as calm and collected as always - but uncomfortable he was. This man always seemed to look right through him - never a pleasant experience on the best of days but even more so when you have secrets to hide. Out of the corner of his eye he caught a movement and, without ever taking his eyes off Micah, Seranthiem reached out and grabbed his boss around the wrist before she managed to escape...

Micah just took a moment to consider the whole scene. Something was quite clearly going wrong here, and it seemed Mae was determined to go back inside while Sam was just as determined to keep her outside. And Twilight had sent him right into the middle of it all. He fought the urge to shift his feet and tried not to look at Sam too directly, letting his gaze hover between the two on the stairs.

"Ahem...yes...can I help you?" The words were calm and precise despite the pauses, and Sam didn't even appear the slightest discomfited by the situation. Rather, he was hiding it just as well as Micah was. Awkward.

Despite himself a wry smile crept onto Micah's lips, and he nodded to Sam. He kept that edge of dry amusement from his voice, speaking just loud enough to carry across the short distance between them, the words clear and even. “Yes, truly. Twilight has enjoined me to ask Mae to come help her.” He flicked his hand in a gesture that took in the whole, uneasy tableau. “All the better that you were just leaving.” He put the hint of question in the last sentence, as he wasn’t sure if they really were leaving or if Sam was just trying to get Mae to leave. “I even have the use of the Mitsubishi.” He shrugged a little and smiled. “Twilight would like help to arrive as quickly as possible.”

"Oooo - isn't that just soo looovely." Mae twirled around making happy noises. Her sudden change in mood completely threw her companion off guard. Before he had time to act she'd already managed to cover the interveining space between the stairs and the new arrival.  "Oh....and who might you be?"

The dark-haired man seemed as taken back by the behavior as Sam. It was impossible to tell if it was sheer shock or something else that kept him from backing up. Still, he didn't quite manage to keep his expression as motionless.

"Excuse us." Seranthiem caught hold of his errant boss. "A small excursions sounds just right for now. Thank you."

As Micah gestured towards where he'd left the car Sam wondered just how much 'help' Mae'd be in her current state?
"This is going to be quite troublesome," Sam thought as the car's engine started humming in the cold night.  "I don't suppose you'd care to tell us why you'd come?"

"Twilight said she needed some help."

"Yes yes...I believe you'd said that already." Sam turned his head, staring out into the rolling darkness. "Never mind."
Whatever was going on, they're were sure to find out eventually. Hopefully things would work out. If the effect of whatever had been put into her drink didn't wear off soon they were going to be in trouble. Still....

"Wait a minute...isn't this guy supposed to be some sort of strange healer?" Sam didn't know too much about him to be honest...but even he had heard the rumours floating around the community. Perhaps it'd be best to bottle his pride and ask for the help of this strange man?

Seranthiem risked a glance in the rearview mirror. Mae had been quiet ever since they got in the car. At the moment she seemed to be studying the scenery - or lack of it, from the window. Perhaps...if things hadn't improved by the time they'd arrived, he'd have no choice but to bottle his pride and ask for help. One thing was certain, his boss certainly wasn't going to be any help to the stable owner they were going to see.

Mae ignored the two others, concentrating on the dark night. Every once in a while there'd be the odd light among the trees. It was strangely comforting, almost as if being all alone in the world. Still, it'd be even better if she could actually remember what had been going on lately. It seemed that almost everything after dinner was hidden behind a blurr. She hoped she hadn't been doing anything stupid.

EDIT / Story now added in above! :D
More story to come -- ^^; Sorry, it's late over here. This took so much longer to finish than I'd estimated. But hey! There are people! And a car. Lost the ref to it after I'd finished the sketch, so the shading is guesswork -.- but I'm still rather pleased with how this all turned out. People and backgrounds are two of my worst areas :giggle:
-------------

No references for anything else but the car, although I checked through Absoz's ball pictures and so on for clues on how to make the right background. Thank you to *life-d-sign for the inspiration there. ^^

Super happy with how the people turned out without even a reference!!! :D
