Blood on Snow versus Skyfires

Blood on Snow is on the rail, and Skyfires on the outside, since she has a longer stride. This is basically a training race on their home track. A beautiful sunny day on the island.

It was only a month after the hurricane, and things were just barely starting to get back on track. All of the new foals and yearlings were getting old enough for training, but everyone was still very busy just trying to clean up and take care of all the horses in one day; there was no real time for really working with every horse individually as they needed. Twilight was noticing just how difficult it was with so few staff on the island. They had over fifty horses, most of them in training of one sort or another, all of them either boarded with friends or scattered across the island wherever a shelter could be raised while the barns were rebuilt.

Phantom Fire had been left with Mae for a short time over the winter after word had been received about the hurricane during the last show they'd been in at the Royal Pirates' stables, and Blood Moon Eclipse had been stolen just as they were leaving to go back to the island. Blazing Aura and some of the other horses had been left at various racetracks and then boarded with family, but finally everyone was starting to come back. And once they left the boat or plane, they naturally needed a little stretching of the legs.

Two more of the Sandhya clan had shown up to help out and had basically taken over making sure the horses were settled in at the ranch once more. Nikolai had taken out Blood on Snow, and his cousin Dare had taken the younger and more excitable Skyfires. Neither had expected the mares to have quite so much energy, or that it would be the calm and experienced Blood on Snow who would change the warm-up in to a match race.
